COVID-19 Guide
Keeping You Healthy
For your health and safety, we take precautions based on guidance from the State of Texas, the CDC and East Texas A&M.
Your safety matters to us
We know safety is of the utmost importance to you, our patrons and to us and instituted several measures based on guidance from the State of Texas, CDC, and East Texas A&M:
- Additional cleaning throughout the day and at opening and closing.
- Hand sanitizer provided for entrance and exit and throughout the facility.
- Disinfectant wipes provided to wipe down equipment.
- Patrons are encouraged to bring their own water or water bottle to minimize the usage of water fountains. Water bottle filling stations and water fountains are cleaned regularly.
- The cardio floor, weight floor, and other areas in the MRC are limited to a maximum number of patrons at a time.
- Sports activities are limited depending on the activity.
Area Standards
General standards
We all have a social responsibility to keep our Lion community well. We ask that each patron adheres to the following standards:
- Stay at home if you are sick or show symptoms of COVID-19.
- Practice physical distancing of at least 6 feet from others.
- Wash and sanitize your hands frequently before, during, and after your visit with us.
- Minimize and avoid unnecessary physical contact with others.
- Clean exercise equipment after each use by utilizing provided disinfectant wipes.

Patrons are allowed to bring their own workout equipment, but it must be disinfected before and after using the facility. You can bring your own sports balls. Equipment available for checkout at this time includes:

Guide for Sports
Starting Monday, May 10
MRC and MAC
- Racquetball and Table Tennis – up to 1v1
- Basketball – up to 1v1 when staffed during open rec schedule
- Volleyball – up to 4v4
- Outdoor Basketball – up to 3v3 when staffed
- Badminton and Pickleball – up to 2v2
- Water Volleyball – up to 3v3
- Soccer – up to 3v3 when staffed
- Monday – Friday: 1 – 5 p.m.

Guide for fitness activities
- Patrons should respect physical distancing while working out.
- Staff spotting has been suspended. Staff may save spot a patron if they are unable to lift the weight and are in danger of injury or death.
- Individuals are asked to only spot each other if they share a household.
- Circuit training is not encouraged to avoid increased high-touch points with equipment.
- Disinfectant wipes are available for individuals to clean the equipment after use.
- Yoga mats are required for any workout that involves laying on the ground.
Guide for GREAT OUTROARS
POOL
- Before entering the pool, patrons must rinse off utilizing the locker room showers or the outside shower located at the northeast edge of the pool.
- Swimmers should sanitize their hands before entering the pool area. The sanitation station is near the door to the locker rooms.
- Patrons may bring their own kickboard, goggles, and fins, but equipment must be cleaned with our cleaning solution before usage.
- Pool deck chairs must remain six feet apart.
- Pool capacity – 20 (in the water)

- Spa capacity – four per level
PAVILION AND BASKETBALL COURTS
- Wash and sanitize your hands frequently before, during, and after your visit with us.
- Practice physical distancing of six feet or more from others who are not in your household.
- One household per table.
- No basketball games, ONLY shooting.
- Pavilion – 22 (two per table)
- Basketball Courts – 3 per hoop

STAYING ACTIVE AND WELL OUTDOORS

SAND VOLLEYBALL COURT GUIDELINES
- Max 10 people per court
- Players can only play 4v4.
- Use contactless celebrations
- Wash hands before and after activity.

TENNIS COURT GUIDELINES
- Max four people per court.
- Players can play 2v2
- Maintain 6′ or more physical distancing
- Use contactless celebrations
- Only handle your own equipment
- Only tennis activities are allowed

Guide for Outdoor Adventure
All outdoor adventure areas have new guidelines and procedures for your safety.
Bike Maintenance
- Customers can drop bikes off on a bike rack outside of the building.
- An iPad will be placed near entrance for customers to fill out the required information on their bike. The iPad will be disinfected after each use.
- If customers need assistance staff will only help loading or unloading alone.
Gear Rental Procedures
- Bikes, discs, sleeping bags, tents, and kayaks are available for check out.
- An iPad will be placed near the entrance for customers to sign gear rental contracts.
- The iPad will be disinfected after each use.
- Staff will only help loading or unloading gear alone.
- An isolation area outside will be set up for gear to be returned to.
- Once the gear is returned staff will sanitize and clean before putting it away.
- 10 participants maximum allowed at a time
- Maintain at least six feet of space at all times with people not within your family unit
- Belayers must use hand sanitizer or wash hands before and after belaying
- Everyone must use hand sanitizer or wash hands before and after climbing
- No loose chalk allowed. You must use chalk sock or liquid chalk.
- Chalk up on the ground.
- Rental harnesses and shoes will be available. Like always shoes will be disinfected after each person uses them. Since the disinfectant will weaken harnesses, they will be sterilized using a quarantine process. We have 5 rotations of harnesses that will be rotated each day.
- Cubbies at the wall are available. We ask that patrons wipe down the cubbies before and after use. Staff will also be doing regular deep cleaning of the cubbies.
- Additional cleaning of high touchpoints such as cubbies, auto-belay carabiners, countertops will be taking place regularly.
- Since it is not feasible to clean the entire climbing wall in between uses it is essential that climbers practice good hand hygiene before and after climbing.
- Share the trail and warn other trail users of your presence as you pass

- Outside groups that want to reserve the challenge course will be reviewed for approval on a case-by-case basis. Approval will be granted to those groups who can abide by our limits to maximum capacity and other COVID requirements, and have the purpose of team building or leadership development
- Area maximums will be set by following state of Texas guidelines
- Hand sanitizer and hand wash stations will be available at the course
- Staff will additionally clean high touchpoints
- All external to the university participants/visitor must fill out a COVID 19 Certification form
- High Elements
- Elements are limited to ones that enable participants to remain 6 feet apart from the staff at all times.
- Elements that will be offline are:
- Zipline
- Giant Swing
- Participants will each be given their own helmet and harness not be shared with any other participants.
- Participants will be required to wash hands or use hand sanitizer before and after each high element
- Staff will demonstrate how to clip into ropes and have participants clip themselves in. Staff will double-check participants prior to using each element from 6 feet away.
- Low Elements
- Low elements will be adjusted to accommodate for distancing between participants or removed from use if unable to do so.
- Debriefs will occur with participants and staff spaced at least 6 feet apart from each other
- Low element groups sizes will follow current national and state guidelines. As of July 2020, this is 10 people.
- Hand sanitizer or washing will be done after elements with common touchpoints

- Elements that are offline:
- Islands
- Mohawk Walk
- Team wall

- Cleaning Equipment
- Helmets will be disinfected after each group use
- Harnesses will be on a rotation system where they are in isolation for at least 3 days between uses as there are currently not approved methods for cleaning harnesses regularly.
- Staples, ladders, carabiners and other touchpoints on the course will be sanitized between-group uses either by washing with Virex or through rotation and quarantine of at least 3 days.
